My opinion on summer vacations
The school year is almost over. Summer is just a few days away. Summer is full of vacations, and hanging out with friends. So where are good places to go for summer vacations?
This question is based on what kind of climate you enjoy the most.
For example, if you like to visit a cold place to get out of the Texas heat, going to Utah is a great place to go. Skiing would be a great exercise. The mountains are a beautiful place to visit and have dinner with your family. Snow ball fights with your friends would also be a fun thing to do.
If you enjoy heat rather than chilly weather, somewhere like Florida is a great place to visit in the summer. Going on a trip with your family would be so much fun. There are many things to do in Florida. Going to the beach and getting a tan, taking road trips, going to out door restaurants are all fun things to do while on vacation.
Other activities to go on during the summer include bike riding, skating, going to the pool, and going to the movies. Bike riding on a cool day would be fun, and you get the exercise you need for the day. Skating also gives you the proper amount of cardio for the day. The pool would be a good place to go to with all your friends and even your family, and so would go to the movies.

Learning
In the beginning of a new school year, all of the students observe all their new teachers closely.
We students do this in order to see which teachers actually grade a paper thoroughly, and which teachers grade them by completion.
I think that students should actually put effort into learning, whether the instructor actually checks your work or not, instead of copying or writing something random down. If you don't learn now, then who else is going to take the time to reteach you again?
What's going to happen when you leave school and you have to actually apply Algebra II or English IV in the real world? What are you going to do when you get to college, and you can't comprehend what your learning because you never put effort into learning the easier steps of a certain subject in high school.
So, when you're in class, you shouldn't be lazy. Put effort into learning.

Too Much Work
With the school year winding down to just a couple of weeks, one would expect the workload getting lighter and lighter.
That's not the case for some. This week I need to complete four major projects for my classes. Two of these projects are due on the same day.
I am just getting very irritated by all the work I have to do. Teachers are trying to squeeze in as much as they can before the school year ends. Project after project and test after test, it's just ridiculous.
I understand teachers must have a certain amount of grades but they should have planned the assignments so it does not become overbearing on the student.

Yearbooks are forever
Yearbooks are something that you will have and cherish forever, something that will remind you of all the people and small things that made up a part of your childhood.
It never fails every year everyone is shocked by the price of a yearbook, especially high school yearbooks. But in my opinion, you can not put a price on memories.
A yearbook captures not only memories, but events, priceless moments, and people that you may never encounter again.
For the year of 2009, we have not released the yearbook to the student body yet. Just like any other production there are some mistakes, but we are all human and as the Media Team we are hoping that the student body will accept that.
I hope that the yearbook will bring smiles, laughter, and tears among the student body here at Travis High School. As a senior, this year was my last year that I am able to be involved in the Media Team.
I have to admit it was fun, and very rewarding. I advise any under classmen to get involved now before it is to late.

Why we should take senior pictures

During our senior year, there are many things we have to get done.
Aside from the obvious college process, we have graduation, invitations, finishing up our school work, but also a lot of people take senior pictures.
Girls and boys take these for many different reasons. We take senior pictures because this is basically our last memory of childhood, after this we will become adults and do adult things.
Our parents try to capture one last memory of our innocence. We also take them to give out in our graduation invitations and to our family members who don’t get to see ho w much we have grown up.
Some of us love the photo shoot and enjoy the experience, while other only take them because their parents have forced them to.
A lot of students go to the very popular Christine Meeker studio, along with many other local studios.
It is a very fun thing to do because we all like to show off a little, and after taking our senior pictures we have one more chance to show off looking our best. These pictures are also great to give out to friends who we could really never be seeing again.
The pictures are often personalized and describe each person individually which is good. These pictures have gotten to be very popular and during the last few months before graduation everyone is racing to book their appointment.
“I do it for my family and to preserve the memories of this age” says senior Alexis Freudensprung who got her senior pictures done with the popular Christine Meeker. So seniors, don’t miss out on this chance because you can always take pictures, but you will never again be able to capture the bliss of this time in our lives.

Pop-Tarts
Pop Tarts are a common easy on-the-go breakfast for many growing teens.
They come in over 10 different flavors and some are un-iced, low fat, or fat free. The most popular flavors among teens are brown sugar cinnamon, s'mores, chocolate chip cookie dough, strawberry, and wildberry.

Orlando Magic vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
Even though Orlando beat Cleveland in the regular season, I think Cleveland and Lebron James will advance past the Magic and get into the championship game to face the Lakers.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are undefeated right now in the playoffs, and maybe or maybe not will sweep Orlando away.
The Cavaliers aren't one of my teams, but i do go for them to win all of the rest of their games.
Getting past the Magic may or may not be a challenge for Lebron and the gang, since they've swept the last two teams they faced in Rounds 1 and 2 so far! But I go for Cleveland in games 1-4.
They're going to the Championship to beat L.A. next month, right after they beat Orlando this week.

Stop blaming teachers
I hate when students try to blame their bad grades on the teacher.
Teachers are not always right, but they are not always wrong. Some students just need to take responsibility and study. The teachers don’t give the grade they just put it in the grade book and whatever you get is what you get.
Yeah, I do think teachers should meet the student halfway if the student is trying to put in effort, but if the student doesn’t want to put in effort, then the teacher doesn’t have to help.
A teacher has more than 100 students and can’t concentrate on just one. And that’s not fair to the teacher. Students - study and do your work because if you fail the class then it’s your own fault, not the teachers. Take responsibility and ownership of the things you do wrong.
Students think their parents can save them from a bad grade, but sometimes it doesn’t work. Most teachers will tell you and your parents, “That’s the grade he/she deserved,” and you wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. Take your schooling serious.

Got Karma?
What goes around comes around.
I have been hearing that since I was little but never know what it meant. It originated from Hinduism and Buddhism. It is seen as bringing upon oneself inevitable results, good or bad.
About four years ago, I did every bad thing there was out there. I bullied, made fun of people, didnt respect anyone, etc.
Little that i knew that everything would turn around and get back at me. about a year later I got in alot of trouble with my parents. It turned out that every bad thing that i did to other people had come back and was getting revenge on me. Ever since then,I make sure I don't do anything bad that would affect me later in life.
Now I treat others how I want to be treated.

Leading More Active Lives
After school a lot of students like to lie down in front of their TVs and relax. We are worn out and exhausted from a long day of learning.
Some students will spend hours mindlessly watching repeats of shows they have already seen. If you add up how many hours students spend watching TV you realize that we are wasting our lives.
We are young, now is the time to live. We can sit in front of a television for hours when we are old and can't move anymore.
One day the people who just sit around watching tv are going to realize that they have missed out on so much and they will regret it.
Try getting out more. Go do something with friends or stay after school with a club or play a sport. You will meet interesting people that enjoy the same things you do and you will even be happier and healthier.
Our country has a huge obseity rate because people don't do anything anymore. They watch tv all day or sit in front of the computer. It's ridiculous how many people don't realize what else they could be doing with their time.
It's time people realized and made a change in their lives. Its such a small change for such huge benefits.

Exemptions
It's a well known fact that many can be exempt from their exams second semester, and the majority of the semester we look forward to it.
But there are requirements: you must have at least an 80, and must not have be en absent more than four days.
And that's my problem.
Recently my grandmother passed away, and my family and I flew to New York for her funeral, and I missed three days.
I thought I would still be able to be exempt, having only three days of absence, but then I got sick, and I missed two or three days due to that.
So I have about five or six absences, and I am told I can not be exempt.
I have all A's except for one B, and I have worked hard to keep my grades that way, but my absences for a family death keep me from being exempt. I think that is fairly unfair, and that Travis High School should be a little more lenient on exemptions.

Top 5 Reasons to be excited about college
As June 6 creeps closer, I get more wound up and ready to graduate.
Although graduation is one of the biggest days in a person’s life, I’m more excited about what comes after I graduate... COLLEGE! Now, in no way is college for everyone; in fact many people who skip out on college to pursue their dreams succeed without ever writing a term paper or living on campus.
But when I stepped foot onto the campus of St. Edward’s University, I was like a kid in a candy shop. The people, the buildings and just that laid-back Austin vibe made me WANT to go there.
Well, enough about me and my love affair with St.Eds, now for the Top 5 Reasons to be excited about going to college.
1. Meeting New People - Honestly, I’ve been with a lot of the same kids since kindergarten. I love my friends and classmates (some of them at least ...), but I’m pretty sure everyone is dying to make some new friends.
2. Moving Out of Our Houses - Everybody loves Mom and Dad, but after 18 years of being roomies, everybody is ready for new roommates.
3. Sleeping In - No more waking up at the crack of dawn to go to school. YAY!
4. Taking Interesting Class - Instead of taking the same core classes every year, you can take the History of Vampires or Religion in Harry Potter.
5. FREEDOM - No more curfews (except in some dorms), no more parental rules and no one telling you eat your vegetables. Sounds nice, right?
Well, be careful because in order to leave for college and stay there you have to be responsible!

Transitioning from senior to freshman
Your senior year is full of ups and downs. Honestly, it’s a sweet and sour mixture. I think that regardless of who you are and no matter how ready you are to graduate from high school, the moment you have to part from some of your childhood friends, or spend your first weekend without your family, is going to be rough.
The “real world” is a hard place to live in. Every college student is most likely going to have the moment when they say, “Man I can’t believe toilet paper and toothpaste are so expensive.” The college life is known to be fast pace - all about making memories good and bad, meeting people that will be in your life forever and who will speak at your wedding, and learning life lessons that you will never forget.
Personally, the “college life” is not what scares me; the self-discipline and priorities is what scares me. Every college student is known to struggle the worst their freshman year, while they're still trying to teach themselves how to be disciplined, not to procrastinate, figure out the differences between needs and wants, and find the balance between school, friends and fun, and most important family.
To every senior, good luck in all their adventures ahead, and just remember we are all in the same boat, never give up. Sometimes the best things in life are the hardest to achieve. Don’t forget to stand up for what you believe in even if you are the only one standing. Good luck!

Sagging Is Lagging
The fashion style for high school boys is sagging.
Sagging is when someone wears their pants or shorts below their waist to reveal thier underwear. It is said to have come from jail because prisoners were not allowed to wear belts. So why would you want to copy something that started in jail? Many boys around the school will find this type of style cute, but in most cases it’s not.
Walking around school, streets, or even at home is where boys are usually sagging. Having their pants below their waist is very unattractive and in some case disgusting. In high school you can not walk down the hallway and not see a boy sagging.
Sometimes I just want to walk up to one of them and pull them down all the way. There are no reasons for a boy to have their pants down that low because seeing their underwear constantly is not a pretty sight. Most girls prefer guys when they have their pants pulled up.
If they are trying to impress a girl, they need to get a reality check and pull up their pants because it’s just on big turn off. Also, there is another new style, wearing skinny jeans while sagging. I don’t even know how it’s possible to sag while wearing skinny jeans.
That is even worse then sagging while wearing bagging jeans. You would think that they wouldn’t sag while wearing those types of jeans, but I guess not.
I guess it’s just a phase that boys go through because I think when they get older they get over it.
Some boys still need a little help to tell them where their pants are suppose to go, but some people never change.

Spring football brings the fight out
The insipid taste of dirt tells your body all the things that hurt.
This is what spring football is all about. The players have to be ready everyday to do their best so they can try to win a starting spot on the varsity team. There are coaches yelling to motivate you to do things right.
Spring football is now halfway through and there are people moving up and down the depth chart. It is one of the hardest things to know that after school you have to go out on that field and be better than you were yesterday. You have to be a leader because you know what it’s going to take to do better next year. You have to fight through the pain on an everyday bases. It may be bumps and burses or nicks and cuts.
You have to have the desire to fight on through all of the discomfort and all the disappointments. All of that just comes with the territory when you really want to play.

Senioritis is taking over
Senioritis. Every senior has it at this point in the school year.
With only three weeks left until graduation, no one wants to do the school work that their teachers are giving them.
Off campus periods help make the day go by faster. I get to show up at school a period late, and then leave a period early. Since I am not required to take a science or math, I chose not to. I have an easy schedule, and I only do the work that I need to do.
While all the freshman, sophomores and juniors are working hard in all their classes, the seniors are relaxing and enjoying the last semester we are going to spend with each other. We do not want to do any school work or anything that has to do with school.
My best friend, senior Lizz Kohn, says that she is ready to go into the real world on her own. The seniors do not want to have anything to do with high school anymore and just want to be on our own and experience the freedom we have not experienced yet.
With three more weeks left of school, the only two exciting things we are looking forward to is prom and graduation. Everything else seems so much less important because we already have our futures after graduation set.
We are not worrying about which college to go to or what our GPAs are or having to study for the SAT or ACT. We are basically just sitting here waiting for June 6.
I do not agree that our teachers should be giving us a lot of school work at this point in the school year. The seniors most likely will not do any of it. We could have class discussions or something along those lines and still learn.
Give us a break please. We have senioritis. It’s not our fault.

Outdated Education from Outdated Technology

Steve Jobs and his Mac© company have brought revolutionary products into today’s society. Just like Bill Gates with Windows, Steve has made our world better and more technologically sound with his iPods and Mac Books.
Oddly enough, with us being directly in the middle of this technological revolution, we have yet to develop our school systems to meet the standard of today’s functional world.
Our Windows XP© Professional system is running on a 2001 based model. Microsoft Word © on our computers here at Travis High School appear to be stone age applications considering that that software was developed in 2003 and we are currently charging headstrong into 2009.
Although replacing all the computers and equipment in the districts may be a financial concern in the midst of the economic crisis is it not time we replace these obsolete equipment and stop limiting our education by bounding it to yesterday’s technology?
Considering the many ways that we can raise the funds, i.e. different fundraisers like bake sales, and donations, shouldn’t we try to improve our technologies? The school’s computer systems should be updated at least every five years, not once every ten to fifteen years. The media equipment at many schools is so outdated, that it limits the media staff to such mediocre equipment, and virtually impossible high expectations from teachers.
It is not impossible per se for us to produce results that can excel the expectations of many; the only problem is we do not have the technology available to us. We as students should be entitled to the best education and equipment possible that is out there. There would be plenty of donors who would contribute to the cause of a better education for those who would be responsible for our country and world in the future.

More Important Than You Think
With senior year approaching, juniors are stressing out over what classes they are going to take, how many credits they have, and how to get where they need to be for their senior year. The problem with that is that as students, we don’t fully understand how important things are starting with our freshman year.
Freshmen that come in to high school for the first time don’t know how this grading system works. Even though some teachers may grade the same as any middle school teacher, the grades mean a lot more.
In middle school, every single point doesn’t factor into a GPA all that really matters is that if you get a 70 or higher, you pass. Every grade you get on every single assignment in high school goes toward your progress report and then to a report card and eventually, your semester average. These semester averages go onto your transcript which determines the amount of points you get to factor your GPA.
Most students don’t understand that until you reach your junior year, and sometimes even as late as your senior year! You don’t just get a 70 and pass in high school. Yeah it can get you to graduate, but it limits the amount of colleges you can get accepted into. You don’t want to make it hard on yourself your junior and senior year taking classes that you should have taken or passed your freshman and sophomore year. Your senior year should be a breeze and you should be relaxing before you enter college with more stress!

Student jobs
The 2008 to 2009 school year is rounding up. School is almost over. Summer is getting closer and closer and finals are just around the corner. Students are looking forward to no school for a while. But what are we going to do when school is out?
Many people get summer jobs. I think getting a summer job is the best thing to do. It teaches you the value of a dollar, how to be responsible, and what it is like in the real world.
Learning the value of a dollar can be quite difficult. People with jobs seem to spend their money sensibly. If you work for your money, you would not want to waist it on thoughtless things. People you do not work, or get their money from there parents tend to spend money foolishly and never learn how to control their spending. If you have a job, you will most likely learn the value of a dollar.
Responsible behavior is a very good characteristic to learn at a young age. When you have a job, it teaches you to be responsible. Showing up to your job on time, getting the work done that needs to get done, and being fair towards costumers are all responsible jesters you learn by working. People who do not work often do not learn these important jesters.
Getting a summer job will help you more understand how it is like after college. If you don’t have a job, you will not know what to do after college when you have to get a real job. Students who work before graduating often find it easier to get a job after college in comparison to someone who has never had a job.

These are the best years of our lives? Not for some
All adults tell teens that high school years will be the best years of their lives but for some teens that’s not the case.
Teens can be so cruel if you’re not the person that they would like you to be or if you act in a different way than what’s considered to be normal
I'm talking about gay people especially. I’m not gay but I have gay male friends and it hurts me to see how they’re treated on a daily bases. I mean--could you imagine not being able to be yourself because of how people would tease you or try to fight you.
I talked to a friend who doesn’t want his name mentioned for confidentiality reasons, and he shared various occasions where he has been picked on and hurt physically and mentally.
Gay teens take their lives every year from this kind of bullying. When will adults take this seriously and let teens know this is not a game and that they are human just like the rest of us “straight people”.
I myself have witnessed occasions where some boys have entered a room and written nasty things on the board, such as: “IT’S A F*G IN THE ROOM”, and yell out “IS HE I MEAN SHE ON HER PERIOD TODAY”. While the other boys in the room laugh and the adult says "Well, you brought it upon yourself because he wants to be called his alter ego which is a girl's name."
When he tries to stand up for himself he gets hit and pushed around.
But enough is enough. When will we care when one of our own does something drastic, perhaps even taking his or her own life?
Suicide is classified as a "major health issue" for gay men, according to the web site of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than 32,000 people kill themselves annually, they say.
''Gay male adolescents are two to three times more likely than their peers to attempt suicide,'' the web site says.
This is just one of many issues that we as a school and a society should work on.
Every life is worth saving. Every one.

Long School Days
With a little less than three weeks left, school days seem to be going by very slowly. I’m done with all my AP testing and I have nothing to keep me busy during the school day. All I really do is watch the clock and wait for it to hit 2:30. I’m not concerned with any of my classes anymore; I know I’m going to get exempt from all of them.
I can’t wait for the year to end and summer to begin.

Couples in school
When we’re in school, how far should couples go?
What’s appropriate, and what’s extreme?
Public display of affection is usually a big deal in school. Adults think that holding hands and hugging are the farthest we should go. But why are there still some cases of groping and making out in the hallway?
I think the teachers should be stricter when it comes to public display of affection. No one really wants to see other kids kissing and touching all over each other. It's inappropriate and unnecessary for school.
Would you kiss and touch in front of your parents? If not, why should we kiss and hug in front of teachers and principals?
Imagine what kind of person our teachers and other authorities think you are. If you are one of the couples in school, ask yourself these questions.

Freshman Year
It's almost the end of the year and all grades should be at least a 70 or higher in your classes.
If they aren’t, then I suggest you try as hard as you can to do what you need to do in order to get out of high school.
I may be a freshman but I now know that you can’t procrastinate in high school, it's no joke. You have to get your work in on time, you have to do your homework, and you have to be on top of your business.
Listen to the teacher and ask your counselor about what you need to do in order to bring up your grades, because seriously, your freshman year is really crucial, more important than other years.
I am learning now that it’s time to get serious.
Don't make any mistakes when you start your freshman year

The officating cost Dallas the series agaist Denver
Dallas Mavericks lost yesterday to the Denver Nuggets by points in five games because of the officals.
What the series should have been was 3-2 but a late game whistle that was not blown cost Dallas the game.
There were 2.3 seconds left and Mavericks player Antoine Wright clearly fouled Denver player Carmelo Anthony but a wistle wasn't blown.
Despite the referee knowing before the possasion started that there would be a foul committed, he still didn't blow the wistle. But after the game ended and it was reviewed the referee issued and apology but it was already too late because the series was already changed after that game.

Summer Approaching
With summer approaching many students have been caught with a strong case of senioritis. Even juniors sophomores and freshmen are ready for the excitment that summer will bring. We're all ready for the weather, the sports, the parties and the pools. Only a couple weeks to go. guys!

Rockets Game 6
After a long, injury-prone season the Houston Rockets may be playing their last game this season. After a dismal game 5 The Rockets return to Houston tonight for an epic game 6.
They must win to move on to game 7 and if they do not, the season will end. Without Yao the chances seem very low but there is alot of fight in this team.
In game 5 they lost by 40 and are now hoping to bounce back with a huge game 6 win. Good luck Rockets!

Tutorials
We all need help with school at one point or another. Yesterday I tried to go to tutorials for my Algebra I test today. I wanted to go see a different teacher for help though because i just didn't understand my regular teacher. I went to the counselors' suit to ask for a referial to a teacher I might be able to understand. The lady behind the desk gave me a few, but there were so many other kids in the rooms, and I needed more one-on-one help. The idea came to me that the school should have an after school program where kids can go for one-on-one attention--maybe even smart students could help with the tutoring.

Senioritis and exemptions
Personally I know that every single senior at this high school is ready to graduate and move on to great things or just to a new adventure.
For some the road ahead might be scary but we most are ready to face the challenges that lie ahead.
There is just one thing getting in our way, the rest of this year. With the number of absences allowed for exemptions going from nine to four, many are ineligible now.
Seniors are having a hard time wanting to do their work, let alone studying for exams. I dont think that your absences should affect your exemptions, just your grades.

Lack of knowledge
A question I ask myself: Have we limited ourselves knowing about the world that is going on arouund us?
Like global warming, the war that is still going on, birthrates increasing by the day.
I get mad when I see young males trying to be a "Thug rapper."
Why not try to be a English teacher.
I hurt when I see these young men losing their lives over a gun and drugs. I get irritated when they want to take the eazy way route out, like quitting school and doing nothing. What really gets me some parents let them get away with this foolishness.
My question why throw a precious mind to waste? Yes I believe the media has some part in this but it is up to you to take part in it. I don't understand and it's sad to see this generation's lack of knowledge.

Skipping is a bad habit
Skipping is a really bad habit, for many people.
It starts out slowly and harmless but in the end it becomes like a drug.
You don’t notice that you have a problem until it's too late, when you get a ticket or have to go to court. Some people don't realize it's a problem till they get that first warning letter, and by then, the problem is pretty big.
Fifth period it one of the most skipped classes because it’s during lunch and it’s really easy to do it. Most teachers notice but just don’t say anything because I guess they think that if we learn the hard way we won’t do it again.

Wasting Time
If some girls spent more time doing work or studying rather than applying make-up and making bracelets, they would have the best grades a parent could ask for.
It doesn’t seem like make-up would take up so much time but it does. After you spend 10 to 25 minutes putting it all on, you spend 5 min every hour you get doing retouches to make it look perfect.
And during a school day you’re pretty much wasting the time you had to work on the work your teachers gave you. And bracelets.. almost every girl has one and so do some guys. But if you're making them you’re spending however many minutes it takes you to make one bracelet, rather than doing homework or important papers. Girls, we are spending are valuable time pasting on our faces and making kiddy jewelry!

Buying my first car
In December of 2008, my mother and I started looking at cars. We started looking at cars at Honda, Nissan, Dodge, Toyota, etc. I really liked the Dodge Charger, but my mother said that "it was too much horse power for me and that it’s a guy car", but I told her that "I had seen many women driving that car".
So we decided to mark off the Dodge Charger off of my car list. As time passed on, I noticed that there weren't many cars that I liked at Toyota, so that was also removed off of my list.
It was then between Nissan and Honda. We first looked at Honda. We looked at the Honda CR-V (a miniature SUV), and several other cars. I really liked the Honda Coupe, but once again my mother said no, because she didn't want me to get a 2-door car.
Later on as time passed by, we went to the closest Nissan dealership, the sales person decided to show us some of the new cars. My mother had already told me that she wasn't going to go all out with me having everything in the car, since it was my first car.
So we look at the Nissan Altimas and Sentras, but they didn't really fit my taste in what I was looking for. Finally the Nissan Rogue S’, that was the car that really caught my eye the most out of all the cars that’s we looked at. We looked at several different colors such as: black, white, cream, silver, red, and last but my favorite color Gotham Gray.
In January 2009, about 5 days after my 17th birthday, I got my first car, which was the 2009 Nissan Rogue S'. I decided to go with Gotham Gray.

Ironic decisions
What are we thinking? They shut schools down because of the swine flu. Okay, that’s reasonable.
The only thing that I think is pretty ironic is this part of the school closures. The parents won’t stop working, so the kids still need to go somewhere. And where do they send them? To childcare centers?! You create exactly the same situation as if you were in school. So why close schools? I think I do not speak for myself if I say that I don’t want to go to school in the SUMMER!

Beyonce Concert

July 4th is always an exciting day in this country. There are celebrations and parties everywhere. The holiday is a tradition in this country and this year that tradition may be even more exciting.
Beyonce will perform at the Toyota Center on July 4th. The Toyota Center is going to be full of fans all excited to see the Houston born superstar sing from her new CD, I Am…Sasha Fierce.
Beyonce is different from other famous singers. She isn’t insanely skinny and she is down to earth. She isn’t in the magazines attention seeking which is unusual from somebody so famous. She is an amazing singer and an even better person. She will make July 4th a night to remember.

People Need To Relax
People are always saying that they need to relax or get away for a while.
Everyone is always complaining about how little thing that happens. Maybe our world would be a whole lot less stressful and more peaceful if people just took the time to slow down and listen to others.
There would be fewer misunderstandings and possibly less war. I have realized that people get very angry if they think that what they believe in is being threatened.
Your views aren’t always being threatened-- maybe the other person is just trying to share their ideas with you. We usually don’t give people enough time to explain their ideas to us.
We should be open minded and listen and think about what they are saying. We might realize that we agree.
There would be more open exchange of ideas which would make our world a happy, educated, interesting place.
We don’t have this world right now because people are so angry. This causes unnecessary conflicts that could have easily been avoided if we just slowed down a bit.
Slowing down would also make us less stressed and agitated all the time. Because we aren’t taking time in our lives to slow down we become frustrated tired and quick to anger. This is why we overreact which causes even more problems for us. One way we could stop overreacting is if we weren’t so tired.
So let's take some time for ourselves so we don’t yell at somebody unnecessarily.

Yearbooks
We got out yearbooks about three weeks ago, and they have been sitting in Journalism teacher Mrs. Smith's room, taking up plenty of space. The reason Mrs. Smith told us why we haven't been able to pass them out is that it will be a distraction during TAKS or AP testing, also that it is going to cause "senioritis".
I disagree with that because during TAKS we were not allowed to have anything at our desks except a snack or a novel, everything else has to be put at the front of the room. If teachers can see that students may have other things at their desk, then they can see a yearbook at the desk.
Students want to get their test done with, they most likely wouldn't look at their yearbooks during their testing. Also, we had the yearbooks a week or two before TAKS, and we could have passed them out then and by then everyone would have seen everything. Many seniors already have "senioritis," and I doubt a yearbook would really make it worse.
All students are excited for their yearbooks, and keep asking all journalism students and teachers about it. I think that yearbooks should be passed out as soon as possible. Sitting in Smith's room, the yearbooks are inviting to thieves, and that would be a big disappointment.

Swine Flu overkill
I hate how the only thing on the news is information about the swine flu. It gives people more reason to talk down on Mexicans. There are already enough racist jokes out there and we don’t need any more. Everyone is always saying that Mexicans are dirty and not to touch them cause they might get infected with the swine flu. I'm getting really irritated with all of this and it really needs to stop.

Go Rockets.
I hate the Lakers. They’re big cheaters. It made me so mad that they were making all those fouls and the referees wouldn’t call them. The Rockets were playing clean, until the Lakers tried to man handle em’. Fisher should have got suspended for more than one game hitting Scola like that. It was totally uncalled for and unnecessary. Then Bryant elbowed Artist in the neck. I saw that he was trying to get the rebound but to throw his elbow back like that. Once again totally unnecessary. I don’t think part of the play was to elbow the players? But with the third game being in Houston, Rockets should have home court advantage. With every basketball fan in Houston supporting the Rockets at the game, we won’t let a foul go unmissed. GO ROCKETS!!

The Return of Brett Favre
In the NFL, I don’t like the decision that was made by Brett Favre to want to come
back and play in another season.
He said he wasn’t going to return because he refused to have surgery on his left shoulder. The head coach for the Minnesota Vikings explained to reporters that he and Brett would discuss terms of playing for his team. It’s so random that he would want to return and decide the Vikings are the team he chose to start next season with.
It isn’t official yet, but I bet there’s a possibility he would get signed and be considered a Viking.
Brett Favre is one of my favorite quarterbacks, but his deciding to come back after retirement is just so…radical. ESPN announced this morning that Brett Favre will be back on the boards in Minnesota with the Vikings head coach. Critics will eventually have stories to tell to the people of the world about the return of Brett Favre.
Once you retire, you’re supposed to stay retired. He’s a legend now, and if he wants to return to the NFL and have his number on the cameras around the world, than that’s cool with me.
The Vikings are a team I’ll watch, because of Adrian Peterson and their new rookie
Percy Harving, two of the best running backs in the League to me. With Brett in as
their new leader, if he gets the job, they’ll make it even farther in the playoffs than the Jets didn’t do last year. ESPN will announce whether or not he was signed or not.

Rockets vs. Lakers
The Houston Rockets put up an amazing fight in game one in L.A. then the Lakers came firing back in game two. The game was filled with contriversy though and Derek Fisher got a flagrent foul 2 for a cheap shot at Scola and got ejected. Then after Kobe Bryant threw an elbow into Ron Artests throat and got a flagrant foul 1 Artest became enraged and went up to Kobe Bryant for a fight then Artest got ejected. The game was filled with trash talking and physical contact. Now the Lakers are coming to Houston and game three should be interesting.

Why do we wear Forces?
Why do we wear Forces (Nike Air Force Ones), you ask. It's simple. We dress to impress or because we just like the way they fit. But, me personally, I like the way they fit.
Plus they go with all the different clothing you could think of. I mean they have every color, black, white, orange, or even custom made .
But the main reason we wear Forces is because they are one of the most popular shoes out there.
And it lets others know who you are. There are many different ways you could wear them, for example you could have the tong showing or not. The cost of the shoes is not even that expensive. But one thing I can’t explain is why most people prefer white forces than any other color.
Whenever you walk in the halls of our school, and you ask people why they wear them they can’t ever give you a straight answer. For most of them they don’t know why they wear them, but for others they get them because everybody else gets them.
Whenever you get Forces, in some cases it brings attention to yourself. For example if you where in the hood and you have the new latest Forces more then likely you will be jacked.
I know of some people that get Forces cause it goes with their group, and because they get them custom made. So that’s why I think that people wear Forces.

Plus they go with all the different clothing you could think of. I mean they have every color, black, white, orange, or even custom made .
But the main reason we wear Forces is because they are one of the most popular shoes out there.

Snake at the River
When working on a river. my dad keeps a 20-gauge in the front seat. I grabbed a stick from the ground not paying attention to what was under it, and all of a sudden my dad yelled out "Snake!"
It got up in striking mode, its head cocked back in the shape of an “S”.
My heart dropped. I thought I was having a heart attack and was frozen in a block of ice, when I finally gathered myself, I moved away from the snake as slow as possible. When I thought I was far away enough from the snake I turned to run towards the truck.
It struck at me, missing by an inch. My heart was pounding with excitement as I ran to the truck to get the gun.
As I struggled to load the gun, I kept looking back at the snake to see if it was moving towards me. I held the gun and gripped it tight to my shoulder. I pulled the trigger and in a flash the snake's head dispatched from its body onto the road.
I took a seat, calming down and thought about what had happened. Think about how close I was from being bitten by one of the most poisonous snakes in the US.
We began packing up our tools to get ready to leave. When everything was packed, we left the ranch and got dinner from CiCi’s pizza
At first they said they were closed till my dad told them what had just happened. Luckily the cashier worked on a ranch when he was little so he knew where we were coming from and let us eat.
It was 11 p.m. when we finished eating, me and my brother fell asleep in the car as my dad drove back to the house.

Heat's Future
Miami's future is looking bright after taking Atlanta to seven games--a 28-game improvement from last season's 28-win disaster.
Most of that is thanks to Dwayne Wade's terrific season where he averaged 30.2 points with 7.5 assists and five rebounds.
He not only led the league in scoring this season, but he also led in block shots and steals among guards.
This season, even with rookie point guard Mario Chalmers and power forward Michael Beasley, the Heat still went to the playoffs and came close to winning the series if they could have gotten any consistent scoring.
But that's what rookies do--they play inconsistently. The series was still a good learning experience for the Heat, seeing as how four of their seven key players did not have any playoff experience.
The injuries to Jermaine O'Neal and Jamario Moon did not help the Heat's chances of winning. This was still an overall good season for the Heat.
Now what they should do is focus on next season and try to get some consistency from Beasley and Chalmers. Add some depth to the bench and in the next three years, they can actually have a contending team.

A Good Dutch Laugh
I was looking forward to the weekend since the day I left my home in the Netherlands for a year. My family was comimg to visit me! It has been a very exciting weekend. But one of the things that really made me laugh was my mom's reaction to common American products.
On Saturday, we decided to get a sandwich at Subway. After we all ordered ourselves a six-inch sandwich, the woman asked if we would like to get drinks. We were really thirsty, so we decided to take one. When the woman behind the counter asked us what size we would like, my mom pointed at a small plastic up next to the cash register. I started to giggle and explained to my mom that the little cup was not for sale. I asked the cashier for a small cup and my mom's mouth fell open.
"WHAT?" she said. "Is THAT a SMALL cup?? I'm never going to be able to drink all of that!"
I told her that she could even get a refill if she wanted to and we all started to laugh.
